Children's Faith Formation

Children ages 5-11 are invited to join us in-person for Religious Education classes at 10:30 on Sunday mornings!

Children's classes are held during the worship service.
So that we may serve you better, registration is required for all children and youth.

At home, you give your children the tools they need to seek answers, nourish their spirits, and build the world they dream about.

At UUCR, we want that too. Family Faith Formation is designed to nurture the awakening of young persons' minds, hearts, and souls, deepen their compassion, and help them live our Unitarian Universalist faith.

About our Children and Youth Programs

Faith Formation grows along with your children. Each year, children are given even more independence, responsibility, intellectual challenge, creative opportunity, and ownership of their spiritual experience.

From the moment they enter our nursery, young children are encouraged to question, explore, connect, and grow their self-identity. In the upper elementary years, children explore answers to the big questions about life and death, spirit and God, ethical decisions, and respecting the experiences of others.

Our adult volunteers adhere to our safety guidelines to keep our children safe and supported by this caring community.

Children's Participation in Worship

Children's worship experiences are important to their spiritual growth, and the formation of their beliefs. Children join their families in worship in the sanctuary during multigenerational worship services. They also experience child-centered worship in our "Chalice Chapel" services.

Sunday School classes (ages 5-11)

In-person classes meet for ages 5-11 during worship services from 10:30 - 11:30 am on Sunday mornings

Intergenerational Worship Services

Several times throughout the year, the whole congregation of all ages celebrates worship together. These services include our Ingathering Water Ceremony, Thanksgiving Service, the Holiday Pageant, Christmas Eve services, and Flower Communion.

Our Whole Lives (OWL)

OWL is grounded in a holistic view of sexuality to:

• Provide facts about anatomy and human development

• Help you clarify your values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality

• Empower you to make informed and responsible decisions about your sexual health and behavior

The OWL curriculum is developmentally appropriate to each age group, and based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, developed by a national task force of experts in adolescent development, health care, and education.

Please contact Carla Miller, DRE at cmiller@uucr.org to learn about upcoming opportunities for OWL.

More Questions?

Contact our Director of Religious Education, Carla Miller at cmiller@uucr.org or 301-762-7666 x 3 to learn more about UUCR's religious education program.

Check out Between Sundays, a project of the Church of the Larger Fellowship, for tips and resources to help answer your children's religious questions, especially those about Unitarian Universalism.

  • What do I do next?
  • What do I have to offer the world?
  • What does Unitarian Universalism (UU) mean to me?

The journey includes a spiritual search for meaning and purpose in life. Our youth programs are designed to nurture the awakening of young persons' hearts and minds as they explore these questions within our UU faith.

Register your youth to help us serve you better.
